Fruit Production

well as a few of you know i have started what i like to call my "fruit production" basically it is drying fruit like mad!!! first i pick the fruit...
...then i core the fruit (thank you Ryan's for your apple core machine), and lay them out of screens. any kind of fiberglass screen or plastic works...

...they i hang them to dry outside in the nice hot southern utah weather...

...up close and personal...

...i also will just lay them in the Ryan's yurt while they are gone. (there yurt isn't insulated so it gets really hot and steamy in there)

...for pears it's best to lay them out not touching so susan and i came up with a great way that only takes up 2/3rds of her yurt (ha ha). pears ripen better if they have space between each other. this has been quite an education not to mention time consuming. right now i have 11 gallons of dried apples, and working on peaches, pears, and banannas. i want to have 20 gallons total. the best part is all the fruit i have picked and not payed a dime for. even the banana's i didn't have to buy, i just let the store know before they get rid of them because they are going black to call me up and i will come get them. this has been fun. i spend a few hours every night working on this so in the winter i will be set with fruit. IM ONE PROUD FRUIT PICKER!!!
