cabin building part 12...

 well im trying to get everything ready to  put the last of the rafters up by monday and i need to build extension beams and posts coming off the front of the cabin to hold up the rafter that are extended out from the front of the cabin.  i have two round posts that i got from a salvage pick up that might just be the perfect solution.  i was on my own today and really could of used a hand but had to figure to do it on my own.  they are really heavy and awkward, but i went at it anyway. 

 i have two cinder blocks i used to keep the posts from rolling and kept the saw on the ground.  this seemed to work well. 

 once i had one end cut, i drilled a hole in the end so that i could put it on top of the re bar cement post thingy.  (i never know what things are called. its funny when im at the lumber store, the guys laugh a little at me but they love it at the same time. we all know each others names now.  LOL) 

 the bottom of the post is now ready.  now to work on the extension beam.  again to have an extra hand would of been great but i used clamps to keep it where i wanted it.  without the clamps the four feet extending out was too heavy and i couldn't drill it in place.  this worked great.  the beam is now in place and ready to dig the hole, measure the length of the distance and make the second cut on the post. 

 i dug the hole just deep enough to place the bottom flat footprint down and then made sure that was level.  added the top cement thingy and made sure that was all level.  i also made sure that i dug the hole in the right spot.  everything seemed to work great.  i then very carefully and slowly picked up the post and went to put it on the re bar, which i failed many times trying to do, so i gave in and called blake, he came over to help guide it in place.  not only did it fit perfectly my second cut was exactly the way i wanted it.  im starting to get better at this cabin building thing.  my next cabin (ha ha) will be so much easier to build. 

 i got it all drilled in using L shaped brackets. 

and filled in the hole and WAAAAALLLLLLLLAAAAAA a smile appears on my face.  i was quite happy with how well it worked out.  now for the second one. 
the second one worked just as well, but this time i didn't have blake to help guide it in, so i came up with an idea to rope it in to the top beam to hold it and then i could let go and actually guide it in.  this worked great and before i knew it both were finished and now im ready to do the rest of my rafters.  im getting closer and closer to having a roof on.
